More Than Words® — The Hanen Program® for Parents of Children on the Autism Spectrum or with Social Communication Difficulties
About the Program
Do you have a child with autism or who struggles with social communication? Research shows that parents can have an impact on their child's social communication development by adjusting how they implement their everyday routines.
Format of the Program
Our comprehensive Hanen Programs® are offered live/virtually (to residents of Michigan) via small groups and include the following:
-
An Orientation Session - provides an overview of the program.
-
Pre-program Session - an individual session (1.5 hrs.) with the parent and child to identify their concerns and their child's social-communication needs.
-
Eight small group sessions (2 hrs. each) where parents learn how to use strategies via large/small group activities, video examples and power point discussions. Children do not participate in these sessions. The small group programs also provide an opportunity for parents who share the same struggles to connect and support one another.
-
Three individual video-feedback sessions (1 hr. each) to observe parents implementing the program strategies and provide personalized coaching to build their confidence and success.
Who Would Benefit
The More Than Words program is designed for parents of children 2-5 years of age who struggle to stay engaged, interact and communicate with others. It is offered individually or in small groups.
